The Deutsche Architekturmuseum in Frankfurt is more than "just" a museum. The founding fathers were already aware back then: Not only the content has to be right here, but the wrapper too. Thus, from an historic villa they created an imposing edifice that has been hosting fascinating treasures of architecture ever since. In 2010, about 25 years after its completion, an initial complex renovation was in the offing, where amongst other things the floor area on the first floor, including the exhibition hall, at a size of 900 m², needed to be retiled true to the original. The firm Waldemar Günther GmbH & Co. KG in Frankfurt was awarded the contract to re-lay the artificial stone flagging. Because a cement heating screed was selected as the underfloor, the tile laying materials had to satisfy exacting requirements. As a result, PCI Carrament, the quick-hardening natural stone thin-set mortar, was selected as the bed mortar and PCI Carrafug was used as the joint mortar. The elastic joints were infilled using PCI Caraferm. The Museum re-opened its doors in January of 2011. At the end of the entire construction period which lasted a total of 10 months, the Museum Director Peter Cachola Schmal appeared thoroughly satisfied. And the Construction Site Manager Josef Melchner gave a positive review too. He underscored the smooth work flow in particular, which not least has to be attributed to the excellent collaboration of PCI Technical Consultant Ingo Grollmisch and to PCI's reliable specialty products.
