Twin towns chiselled in stone

Products used

The picturesque town of Limburg looks back on a long tradition. This also includes the three historically grown town twinnings with Sainte Foy-lès-Lyon in France, Oudenburg in Belgium and Lichfield in Great Britain. In order to honor these relationships in a special way, the city officials decided to have an impressive (floor) picture made of cobblestones laid on Limburg's Europaplatz. Together with the paving company Alois Jung, the civil engineering office planned an approximately 80 m² circular painting made of different paving stones, which shows the coats of arms of the four cities. The project was successfully completed within six weeks in close cooperation with technical consultant Rainer Martin from the construction chemicals specialist PCI Augsburg GmbH. A ten meter diameter circle made of basalt, marble, granite and porphyry now adorns the square in front of the Limburg mayor's office. In order to create a robust, water-draining and at the same time visually appealing substrate that can cope with the daily challenges of traffic and weather, the planners and pavers used tried-and-tested PCI products.
