As people make greater use of cellars, requirements with regard to thermal insulation and interior climate become increasingly stringent. When constructing new buildings or refurbishing existing buildings, the protection of outer and inner walls against moisture plays a key role.

Systematic drying of walls and waterproofing of buildings

In the planning and implementation of waterproofing for buildings and projects to dry out walls, two basic approaches can be distinguished:

  • Waterproofing on the positive side
  • Waterproofing on the negative side

In the first case, the water presses the waterproofing against the building; in the second case, the waterproofing layer is pressed away from the building. For waterproofing on the positive side, we recommend the application of bituminous products such as PCI Pecimor® 2K to the outside wall. As an alternative, cementitious waterproofing systems such as our PCI Barraseal® series may be used for external waterproofing. If you wish to treat the negative side, cementitious systems are the solution of choice. When selecting products, please check whether they are suitable for protection against standing or pressing water or only against moisture in the soil.
