10.10.2019 Dusting, flaking, efflorescence and moisture saturation – construction contractors and craftspeople are all too familiar with the signs of damage to poorly constructed plinths. As the problem solver for the building trade, PCI Augsburg GmbH offers a fast and reliable solution for effective waterproofing in accordance with DIN 18533: PCI Barraseal Turbo reliably protects plinth areas exposed to severe weather conditions, durably maintaining the fabric of a building. The flexible mineral waterproofing slurry can be applied over the entire surface up to the top edge of the plinth and then covered direct with suitable render or paint. As a real allrounder, PCI Barraseal Turbo is also well-suited for waterproofing basement walls, foundations and concrete elements.
Any construction contractor or craftsman will be familiar with the situation: the building skeleton has been completed and the construction pit needs to be backfilled as soon as possible. But the plinth has not yet been waterproofed. Often, there is a lack of coordination between the different contractors and it is not clear who is responsible. This is particularly problematical as the interface at the building plinth is exposed to severe stress caused by weather conditions and is therefore especially sensitive. Statistics show how important a reliable waterproofing solution is. The plinth tops the list of areas affected by building damage.
PCI Barraseal Turbo keeps the plinth watertight
“Building contractors and specialists in building protection, waterproofing, paving and landscape gardening should pay special attention to interfaces between paving, natural stone and ceramic coverings and the building plinth. It is essential to prevent moisture from penetrating the building in this area. Otherwise, any coverings already applied to the building must be removed and waterproofing must be applied to the plinth. This costs time and money and annoys building owners,” says Tobias Bosse, Marketing Manager Construction Systems with the PCI Group. “This is why we recommend PCI Barraseal Turbo“. The mineral waterproofing slurry can withstand stress on the plinth caused by spray water and soil moisture in accordance with DIN 18533, water exposure class W4-E,. This way, damage such as cracks, flaking of the render or moisture in the plinth or wall can be avoided.
Seamless, bitumen-free waterproofing
As an alternative to tried and tested thick bituminous coatings, the PCI product range also includes PCI Barraseal Turbo, a bitumen-free waterproofing product. The mineral waterproofing slurry is especially well-suited for plinth waterproofing. It can be painted over or covered with render. As PCI Barraseal Turbo has an attractive concrete grey colour, it can even be left uncovered. The waterproofing can be applied seamlessly up to the top edge of the plinth and then covered with render or painted over. Practical features also include flexible application to mineral substrates or direct application to a wall surface. The rapid drying of PCI Barraseal Turbo allows fast work on site. After only four hours, the waterproofing layer has already set and the construction pit can be backfilled after only about six hours.
Allrounder for above-ground and below-ground waterproofing
The advantages of PCI Barraseal Turbo not only include fest setting but also versatility and easy processing. This product is ideally well-suited for waterproofing basement walls and foundations in accordance with DIN 18533, class W1-E, for protection against pressing water in accordance with the test principles for mineral waterproofing slurries and as class OS 5b surface and chloride protection in accordance with Rili SIB. PCI Barraseal Turbo can also be used for fixing drainage and installation boards and for waterproofing tanks up to 10 m water column in accordance with DIN 18535. The allrounder may be applied using a trowel, brush, roller or spray gun. It is open to diffusion and resists frost, ultraviolet radiation and ageing.
As a real allrounder, PCI Barraseal Turbo is also well-suited for waterproofing basement walls, foundations and concrete elements.
The plinth is an especially sensitive area: PCI Barraseal Turbo provides durable, reliable waterproofing for the interface between the plinth and surrounding areas. Damage such as cracks, flaking or moisture penetration can be avoided with the flexible two-component reactive waterproofing product.
PCI Barraseal Turbo is suitable for universal use: the bitumen-free mineral waterproofing slurry can be applied to a variety of different substrates and is suitable for the waterproofing of walls and plinths, horizontal damp-proof courses, for fixing drainage and installation boards and as a surface protection system.
With PCI Barraseal Turbo , waterproofing can be applied seamlessly up to the top edge of the building plinth and then painted over or covered with render after only six hours. In view of its attractive concrete grey colour, it is not absolutely necessary to cover the waterproofing layer.
